The Bahrain Raid Extreme team announced that a new driver has joined the squad of drivers that will participate in the Saudi Dakar Rally, scheduled to start early next year. French rally legend, Sebastian Loeb, joined the team, completing the duo that would represent the Bahrain Raid Extreme team in the Dakar Rally, alongside Spain’s Nani Roma, who recently joined the team. Loeb has more than 20 years of rallying experience, having won the World Rally Championship 9 times in a row.
Loeb, 46, participated in the Dakar Rally for the first time in 2016 before participating in it for 4 consecutive years, in which he twice reached the podium. Loeb also has extensive experience in the Auto World Tour Championships, the Le Mans 24 Hours and X-Games, as well as testing Formula 1 racing and the GT racing series.
Commenting on his joining the team, French Sebastian Loeb said: “The Bahrain team (Raid Extreme) has great ambitions for the Saudi Dakar Rally 2021. I look forward to being part of the team’s journey. Bahrain (Raid Extreme) has extensive experience in various fields; He is the best in this field thanks to the partnership with Prodrive, in addition to the proven track record of its president, David Richards, as well as the history of the Kingdom of Bahrain and its long heritage in motorsport. The Bahrain Raid Extreme Team is a joint venture between the Kingdom of Bahrain and the British company, Prodrive, the leading sports car company, led by David Richards, founder and chairman of the British company Prodrive. Richards has a proven record that includes winning 6 titles in the World Rally Championship, as well as winning 5 times in the “Le Mans” race, and his long experience in leading Formula 1 teams. However, this will be his first participation in the Saudi Dakar Rally. As for the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Bahrain Raid Extreme Team is the Kingdom’s latest achievement in the world of motorsport, and represents a new step in the Kingdom’s journey in the world of sports.
David Richards, Team Manager, Bahrain Raid Extreme, said: “I am delighted to welcome Sebastian with us on behalf of the entire team. He joins us with extensive experience in rally racing, and we believe he is one of the strongest drivers in this field. Loeb will drive the Bahrain Raid Extreme Team car for the Dakar Rally “T1 class”, an SUV with a 6-cylinder engine and a 3.5-liter turbocharger. The car was designed based on Prodrive’s experience in competing at the highest levels of motorsport around the world for more than 3 decades, and was designed by Ian Callum, one of the world’s leading automotive designers. The car and engine have been under development at Prodrive since mid-2019. The first car is expected to be unveiled in the fall.
