The head of the Turkish Foreign Economic Relations Committee, Nael Oloubak, said that he had received information from the committee members about Saudi Arabia’s boycott of Turkish products as of October 1.
Olubac said in a press statement, that this boycott remains a rumor, once it is officially confirmed by Turkish companies or the official Saudi authorities.
Olupac stated that his country’s exports to Saudi Arabia decreased by 17 percent, compared to exports in 2019.
He pointed out that Turkey’s exports to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have improved during the last two months, but they remained below the desired level.
He continued, saying, “We held several meetings with Saudi businessmen, and discussed with them the reason for the decline in their importation of Turkish products, so they said that it is a matter of focusing on consuming their local products.”
With regard to the status of Turkish companies operating in Egypt, Olupac said that the conditions of Turkish companies operating in Egypt are stable, and Turkey’s exports to this country have not been affected much by political tensions.
Several days ago, Saudis renewed their calls for a boycott of Turkey through social media, against the backdrop of the difference in views on political affairs between Ankara and a number of Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
On Twitter, they launched the tag (#block_products_turkish), which remained on the list of the most popular hashtags in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, while others demanded the ban on Turkish series, while others went to demand a boycott of tourism in Turkey.
