Erdogan’s advisor criticizes Saudi statements about Khashoggi’s killing

Yassin Aktay, an advisor to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, criticized Saudi statements about the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and the trial of those involved in his murder.

This came in an interview by Aktay with the “Anatolia” agency, coinciding with the second anniversary of the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, inside the building of his country’s consulate in Istanbul.

Aktay indicated that the incident is a crime that occurred on Turkish territory, against a person under Turkish protection, stressing that Ankara is primarily concerned with it.

And Abizaid: “This is a crime committed against Turkey, and Turkish institutions view it from this perspective.”

Aktay refuted the validity of the Saudi thesis, which says that Turkey is not concerned with the crime, because it took place within the consulate building, which is Saudi land, and added that this is unacceptable.

He reported that Khashoggi was killed as a result of a crime committed by a diplomatic mission in a place that obtained diplomatic privileges on Turkish territory, and therefore Turkey is primarily concerned with the crime.

He indicated that the Consulate General loses its diplomatic privileges when it is the scene of the crime of killing a person.

Aktay referred to the entry of a cleaning team to the Saudi consulate building, following the occurrence of the crime, and carrying out cleaning work inside, ruling out that the cleaning process inside the consulate would take place without the knowledge of the Saudi authorities or the crown prince, as he said: “Inevitably this is a crime carried out to the end, within the knowledge of High-ranking officials in Saudi Arabia. ”

Khashoggi was killed on October 2, 2018, inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, and last July, a Turkish court decided to hold the second session to try Khashoggi’s murderers on November 24, after approval of an indictment submitted by Khashoggi’s fiancée, Hatice Cengiz, affecting 20 Saudis, on charges including torture Brutal, murder and incitement.
