RIYADH – The Saudi information ministry’s Centre for Government Communication held a special screening of the documentary film “Difficult Stage” at the AMC Cinema Hall in Riyadh.

The show was attended by a number of officials, political figures and media and cultural figures. It received overwhelming praise for its depiction of the experience of healthcare workers on the frontlines in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic in the kingdom, which has the highest number of confirmed cases in the Gulf.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Media for Communication Abdullah Al-Maghlouth said in a speech at the opening of the ceremony that the film had been produced under the direction of the information ministry over 75 days of continuous work. He added that 70 Saudis participated in the project, which required 60 hours of recording and filming.

The events were filmed in five separate regions of the kingdom to give viewers comprehensive insight into life in the country when confinement measures were in place.

Saudi Arabia went into lock-down on March 21 to curb the spread of COVID-19. In May, it announced a three-phase plan to ease restrictions on movement and travel, with the curfew completely ending on June 21.

Maghlouth said the documentary film would be the first of a succession of high quality productions, utilising state of the art technology and the best international film practices, put out by the information ministry. This will help open the way for Saudi companies to embark on similar creative journeys, he said.
