JEDDAH — Bahrain reported on Thursday that a whopping 68 percent of coronavirus cases linked to travel outside are of those who came from Iran, according to a report in Bahrain News Agency citing the health ministry.

Out of total 353 coronavirus cases linked to foreign travel, 241 recently visited Iran.

Out of the remaining 112 cases involving travel to other countries, 57 arrived from the United Kingdom, 12 from Egypt, 8 each from Germany and Iraq and the rest 27 cases came from other countries.

Meanwhile the number of cases resulting from contact with the infected people stands at 218.

Last month, Bahrain accused Iran of “biological aggression” by covering up the spread of the coronavirus and failing to stamp the passports of Bahraini travelers, Reuters reported.

Bahrain Ministry of Health evacuated 165 citizens from coronavirus-hit Iran last month, bringing them back to Bahrain on a chartered plane. Of the 165 people, 77 tested positive upon their arrival, according to a report in Al Arabiya English.

The ministry also said that it is continuing its efforts in coordination with the various authorities concerned to intensify all precautionary measures and preventive measures to limit the spread of coronavirus. It is also conducting the necessary laboratory tests of all its citizens coming from abroad under the supervision of a specialized medical team, and based on the results of the tests they are being transferred to isolation and treatment centers.
