Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces launched a drive-through test centre for the coronavirus on Yas Island on Saturday.

Earlier, the UAE announced an increase in coronavirus infections and recoveries as cases across the globe topped 600,000, with numbers rising rapidly in in Europe and the US.

However, Wuhan, the Chinese city of 11 million people that was Ground Zero for what became the global coronavirus pandemic, partly reopened on Saturday after more than two months of almost total isolation.

Meanwhile, the UAE recorded 72 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, bringing the country's total to 405.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention said all patients were stable and were undergoing medical treatment in hospitals across the country.

Earlier, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson became the first world leader to test positive for the coronavirus on Friday, as the US passed China as the nation with the most cases in the world.

Xi Jinping on Friday said China and the US must "unite to fight virus" during a phone call with US President Donald . On Thursday, G20 nations presented a united front against the coronavirus, saying they would inject $5 trillion (Dh18.3tn) into the global economy to counter the pandemic.

Meanwhile, a nationwide disinfection campaign is under way in the UAE. From 8pm to 6am until Sunday, residents are advised to stay indoors. The normally bustling streets of were deserted on Thursday night.
