Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - GAZA — Heavy rains have flooded shelters across the Gaza Strip, placing displaced families living in flood-prone areas and damaged buildings at “immediate risk,” the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned Saturday.
In a statement posted on X, OCHA said most of Gaza’s 2.1 million residents remain displaced, with many sheltering in deteriorating tents that provide little protection against worsening weather conditions.
“We are deeply concerned for families already affected and those most exposed to the worsening conditions,” the UN agency said.
Humanitarian organizations have mobilized to distribute emergency supplies and provide assistance to affected families, but available stocks remain insufficient to meet growing needs, OCHA warned.
“Months of funding shortfalls and restrictions have severely constrained preparations,” the agency said.
OCHA called for the immediate entry of winter supplies, heavy machinery, engine oil and spare parts needed to keep humanitarian vehicles and generators operational.
The agency also stressed the urgent need for additional financial support to sustain humanitarian operations and protect vulnerable families from deteriorating conditions.
“More humanitarian funding is urgent,” OCHA said.
