TOKYO, Sept 6 — The Japan Meteorological Agency warned of heavy downpours in Tokyo and six other prefectures through Monday, citing the combined effects of a typhoon and a seasonal rain front, reported Xinhua.
People in the Japanese capital and six other prefectures — Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba, Shizuoka, Aichi and Mie — were advised to stay alert as a linear rainband was forecast to develop, unleashing torrential rain within a span of just a few hours.
The weather agency also cautioned that landslides, flooding in low-lying areas and swollen rivers were possible risks across parts of eastern Japan.
A seasonal front has lingered south of the Japanese archipelago, and atmospheric conditions have grown unstable as warm, moist air from Typhoon Krovanh feeds into it. The front is expected to move northward heading into Monday, the agency said. — Bernama-Xinhua
