Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - TAIZ — Four civilians were killed and nine others injured Saturday after a Houthi ballistic missile struck a gathering of civilians in Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province, according to Yemeni media.
The government-run Saba news agency, citing medical sources, said the missile hit the Heijah Al-Abd road and also caused material damage.
Local sources said the strike targeted passenger buses on the road, which links Taiz with neighboring Lahj province and extends toward the southern city of Aden, Yemen’s interim capital.
The attack comes amid a sharp escalation on several fronts in Taiz, where government forces and the Houthis have exchanged attacks in recent days.
The Yemeni army said earlier Saturday that its forces had recaptured several strategic positions from the Houthis in Taiz and Al-Hudaydah, while also thwarting an infiltration attempt east of Taiz city.
The renewed fighting, which began in July, has ended a period of relative calm that had prevailed across Yemen's front lines since a UN-brokered truce took effect in April 2022.
The Houthis have controlled the capital Sanaa and several other cities since September 2014, while Yemen's internationally recognized government and allied forces control large areas in the south, east and west.
