Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - KYIV — Ukraine has proposed a ceasefire with Russia covering strikes on Ukrainian territory and fighting along the front line but has yet to receive a response from Moscow, Presidential Office chief Kyrylo Budanov said Saturday.
In an interview with Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne, Budanov said the proposal had been delivered personally to Russian President Vladimir Putin.
He said Russia would likely halt strikes on Kyiv only on Sunday, coinciding with the expected visit of US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Witkoff and Kushner arrived in Moscow on Saturday for talks aimed at ending the war and are expected to travel to Kyiv on Sunday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the two US envoys would visit the Ukrainian capital following their Moscow talks.
The visit comes as Washington seeks to revive efforts toward a settlement after US-mediated negotiations between Moscow and Kyiv stalled earlier this year.
The two sides held three rounds of talks on Jan. 23-24, Feb. 4-5 and Feb. 17-18. The first two rounds took place in Abu Dhabi, while the third was held in Geneva.
The negotiations were subsequently paused, with Moscow and Kyiv attributing the halt to Washington's increased focus on Iran following the outbreak of war in late February.
Witkoff and Kushner have made several trips to Moscow since US-mediated negotiations began but have not previously visited Kyiv. Their latest Moscow visit before Saturday was on Jan. 22, when they met Putin at the Kremlin.
