Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - NICOSIA — The death toll from a ferry accident off Girne (Kyrenia) in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) has risen to 13, while 15 people remain missing, Prime Minister Unal Ustel said Saturday.
“With the recovery of the latest body, the number of our people who lost their lives in the accident has risen to 13, while the number of our missing people is now 15,” Ustel said.
Search and rescue operations continued for those still missing following the accident involving the Filo Jet passenger ferry, which capsized off Girne while traveling to Tasucu in Türkiye's southern Mersin province.
The vessel was carrying 267 people when it capsized after departing Girne Port on Sunday, Aug. 30.
Authorities from Northern Cyprus and Türkiye have been involved in the search and rescue operation since the accident.
