BANGKOK, Aug 7 — Thirteen children were injured after debris from a collapsed wall fell on them when a car crashed into a child development centre in Kanchanaburi province in western Thailand on Friday.

The incident occurred at about 11 am when a black Honda Civic driven by a man crashed into the Kaeng Sian Subdistrict Administrative Organisation’s child development centre in Ban Nong Song Ton, Mueang district.

Kaeng Sian Subdistrict Administrative Organisation President Ampai Ritthikhamrop said the car severely damaged the centre’s fence before coming to a stop after hitting a clump of banana trees behind the centre.

“Debris from the collapsed concrete wall injured the children, most of whom sustained head injuries,” she told reporters on Friday.

Ampai said there were 34 children at the centre during the incident.

All 13 injured children were taken to Phahol Pholpayuhasena Hospital for treatment while the remaining 21 children were unharmed, she said.

According to local media reports, police said the car was carrying two people and preliminary investigations indicated that the 54-year-old driver had a heart condition and may have lost consciousness before the vehicle veered into the centre. — Bernama
