In a statement, Defense Ministry spokesman Saud Abdulaziz Al-Atwan described the strikes on the three border posts as a "treacherous act of aggression" that caused material damage.

He said an offshore KOC drilling platform in Kuwait's territorial waters was also struck by a "hostile" drone, damaging the facility and injuring one worker, who is receiving medical treatment.

The spokesman said the relevant authorities immediately began taking the necessary measures in response to the attacks.

Kuwait did not identify who was responsible.

The attacks came amid heightened regional tensions following an exchange of strikes between the United States and Iran.

Earlier Sunday, Iran said it had launched attacks on U.S. military sites in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and Oman in retaliation for U.S. strikes on Iranian targets.

The latest escalation followed U.S. Central Command's announcement that it had struck around 140 targets in Iran after another Iranian attack on a commercial vessel in the Strait of Hormuz.
