Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov described the one-hour and 25-minute conversation as "businesslike, highly constructive and frank," covering a range of bilateral and international issues.
According to Ushakov, the two leaders discussed efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine war, particularly ahead of Trump's participation in the NATO summit in Ankara on July 7-8.
"The U.S. president reaffirmed his readiness to facilitate a swift end to hostilities and the search for peaceful solutions to the crisis," Ushakov said.
He added that U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner would continue mediation efforts and were prepared to visit Moscow at a mutually convenient time.
Ushakov said Trump stressed that ending the war "as soon as possible" would unlock the potential for broader economic cooperation between the United States and Russia.
According to the Kremlin, Putin accused Ukraine and European countries of "betting on prolonging and even escalating the conflict" and said he had presented Trump with what he described as a "real" assessment of the battlefield situation.
The two leaders also discussed Iran, with Putin expressing hope that negotiations based on the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding would produce "mutually acceptable long-term solutions to key settlement issues."
Putin also reiterated Russia's readiness to provide practical assistance to efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions and stabilizing the region, Ushakov said, adding that Trump thanked the Russian leader for Moscow's "balanced position and constructive proposals."
Earlier on Saturday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had also spoken by phone with Trump, discussing the battlefield situation and Kyiv's diplomatic efforts.
"There is a real prospect of putting an end to this war, and America's resolve is decisive. We have agreed to continue these discussions during the NATO Summit in Ankara," Zelenskyy said.
Trump has not publicly commented on either conversation.
Ushakov said the leaders also discussed football, with Putin wishing continued success for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States is co-hosting.
Putin also congratulated Trump and the American people on U.S. Independence Day, while recalling what Ushakov described as Russia's contribution to the development of American statehood.
According to Ushakov, the two leaders agreed to remain in contact and speak again soon, with Putin reiterating his standing invitation for Trump to visit Russia.
