Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - BURGENSTOCK, Switzerland — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Burgenstock on Sunday ahead of planned talks between Iran and the United States later in the day.
Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency said the meeting with Cassis was the first official engagement of the Iranian delegation following its arrival in Switzerland.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the delegation would hold several meetings during the day, including talks with Pakistani and Qatari representatives, who are serving as mediators.
“In the afternoon, quadrilateral meetings will be held between delegations from the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States, in the presence of representatives from Qatar and Pakistan,” Baghaei said.
US and Iranian delegations arrived in Switzerland earlier on Sunday for technical negotiations under the memorandum of understanding signed last week to end the months-long Middle East conflict and reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The talks in Burgenstock are being led by US Vice President JD Vance, while the Iranian delegation is headed by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Araghchi.
Pakistan is playing a mediation role in the negotiations, with Qatar also participating in the diplomatic process.
