Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - TEHRAN — Iran’s foreign minister on Friday accused the United States of resorting to military action whenever a diplomatic solution was on the table even as President Donald Trump insisted that a ceasefire was still in place despite confrontations involving oil tankers and naval forces in the Strait of Hormuz intensified global concerns.
“Every time a diplomatic solution seems within reach, the US opts for a reckless military adventure,” Abbas Araghchi said on social media platform X.
“Whatever the causes, outcome is the same,” he said, adding: "Iranians never bow to pressure."
Araghchi also dismissed reported US intelligence assessments of Iran’s missile capabilities.
“The CIA is wrong. Our missile inventory and launcher capacity are not at 75% compared to Feb. 28,” he wrote, referring to the day the US and Israel launched the war. “The correct figure is 120%.”
The US said Iran launched missiles, drones and small boats against three of its warships, in what it called an "unprovoked attack".
Iran's top military command, meanwhile, alleged the US had targeted an Iranian oil tanker and another vessel approaching the Strait of Hormuz and carried out "aerial attacks" on several coastal areas.
Iran’s foreign ministry condemned the US Navy’s actions, calling them “aggressive acts” and violations of the ongoing truce, according to Iranian state media.
The flare-up comes a day after Iran's foreign ministry had said it was considering a US proposal to end the war.
Meanwhile, three empty Iranian-flagged oil tankers moved back to Iran over the past two days after passing through areas monitored by US naval forces near the Strait of Hormuz, an international tanker-tracking website has claimed.
The report says the vessels travelled through the Strait and later returned via Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone. Satellite imagery is said to have identified two of the tankers during the movement.
