Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - SEOUL — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung departed Sunday on a two-nation visit to India and Vietnam for summit talks expected to focus on stabilizing supply chains amid global energy market uncertainty.
Lee will meet Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday in New Delhi during the first leg of the trip, Yonhap News reported.
The meeting will be the third in-person talks between the two leaders after previous meetings on the sidelines of the G7 and G20 summits last year.
South Korea’s National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac said discussions are expected to cover expanded economic cooperation in shipbuilding, maritime industries, artificial intelligence and defense.
The two sides are also expected to coordinate responses to energy supply chain risks related to the Middle East situation.
Lee is also scheduled to attend a business forum aimed at creating new opportunities and supporting South Korean companies operating in India.
The South Korean president will travel Tuesday to Hanoi for a state visit.
He is due to hold talks Wednesday with To Lam, who also serves as general secretary of the Communist Party.
The summit is expected to focus on cooperation in energy supply chains and critical minerals.
The visit will make Lee the first foreign leader to travel to Vietnam since To Lam was elected president earlier this month.
On Thursday, Lee is scheduled to meet Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man.
