Housing Secretary Steve Reed told the BBC there was “no specific assessment that Tehran is targeting the UK or even could if they wanted to,” following remarks by the Israeli military that Iran possesses missiles with a range of up to 4,000 kilometers.
His comments came after reports that Iran had targeted a joint US-UK military base on the Chagos Islands in the Indian Ocean, located roughly 3,800 kilometers from Iran.
Reed declined to provide operational details on how close any missiles may have come to British territory.
“We are perfectly capable of protecting this country and keeping this country safe, whether it's here at home, or whether it's our assets and nationals across the region,” he said.
