Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - MANAMA — Bahrain’s Interior Ministry announced Sunday the arrest of five people accused of collecting and passing “accurate and sensitive information” to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The ministry said in a statement that the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science arrested five suspects and identified a sixth suspect who is currently outside the country.
Authorities accused the six individuals of collecting and transmitting sensitive information to the IRGC through what the ministry described as terrorist elements based in Iran.
The suspects were also accused of recruiting individuals to participate in terrorist plots targeting the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The ministry said the alleged plans aimed to undermine state sovereignty, target security institutions and economic entities, and spread fear among citizens and residents.
According to the statement, the suspects photographed and collected geographic coordinates of vital locations, including important facilities and hotels, and sent the material to the IRGC.
Authorities said the information contributed to attempts to target those sites during what the ministry described as Iranian attacks.
The ministry also said the first suspect admitted to receiving intensive training in IRGC camps on smuggling individuals and recruiting operatives to carry out terrorist plans.
The suspects were identified as Abbas Abdullah Habib, 39; Yousef Ahmed Mansour Sarhan, 25; Mohammed Fadl Hamid, 39; Sahlan Abdul Reda Ali, 27; Mohammed Hadi Hassan, 37; and Ahmed Yousef Jassim Sarhan, 37, who is outside the country.
