Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - WASHINGTON — US President Donald Trump said Friday that all military targets on Iran’s strategic Kharg Island had been destroyed following a major US bombing raid.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform that the United States Central Command carried out one of the most powerful bombing operations in the region’s history.
“Moments ago, at my direction, the United States Central Command executed one of the most powerful bombing raids in the history of the Middle East, and totally obliterated every military target in Iran’s crown jewel, Kharg Island,” Trump said.
He added that he had decided not to target the island’s oil infrastructure “for the reason of decency.”
Trump warned that if Iran or any other actor interferes with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, the United States would reconsider its decision.
“During my first term, and currently, I rebuilt our military into the most lethal, powerful and effective force anywhere in the world,” he said.
Trump also said Iran does not have the ability to defend itself against potential U.S. attacks.
“Iran has no ability to defend anything that we want to attack — there is nothing they can do about it,” he said.
Trump reiterated that Iran would never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.
“Iran will never have a nuclear weapon, nor will it have the ability to threaten the United States of America, the Middle East or the world,” he said.
He added that Iran’s military and other groups supporting the government should “lay down their arms.”
