Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - KYIV — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Saturday that the United States is proposing that Russia and Ukraine end the nearly four-year war by early summer.
“The Americans are proposing that the parties end the war by the beginning of this summer, and will probably put pressure on the parties according to this schedule,” Zelenskyy said in remarks to journalists, according to Ukrainian media, including state news agency Ukrinform.
Zelenskyy noted that Kyiv understands the proposed timeline is influenced by political considerations in the United States, including the start of campaigning ahead of the U.S. midterm elections later this year.
Asked whether Washington might withdraw from peace talks if the deadline is not met, Zelenskyy said Ukraine has received no such indication from its delegation following recent negotiations in the United Arab Emirates.
He added that Kyiv hopes the United States will remain engaged.
“They will probably just have a different priority — Congress,” Zelenskyy said. “They say they want to do everything by June, and they will do everything to ensure that the war ends.”
Zelenskyy said Ukraine will present the United States with a “sequence plan” for adopting documents related to ending the war, which will mark its fourth year later this month.
He added that Washington has suggested finalizing all agreements linked to the conflict’s resolution at roughly the same time.
His remarks followed two days of talks between Moscow, Kyiv, and Washington in Abu Dhabi on Feb. 4–5, after which Russia and Ukraine conducted their first prisoner exchange in five months.

Zelenskyy said the United States has proposed hosting a direct meeting between Russian and Ukrainian negotiating teams for the first time, adding that it would “probably” take place in Miami within a week.
He also said Washington suggested that both sides once again support an initiative by U.S. President Donald Trump to halt strikes on energy infrastructure. Zelenskyy said Ukraine has agreed, while Russia has yet to confirm its position.
According to Zelenskyy, discussions will continue on future prisoner exchanges, while a trilateral package involving Ukraine, the United States, and Europe will be developed for post-war reconstruction.
He added that Emmanuel Macron is seeking an alternative dialogue channel with Russia to ensure Europe’s presence in the negotiation process.
On a potential ceasefire, Zelenskyy said the United States has agreed to take part in monitoring its implementation alongside Russia and Ukraine, once an agreement is reached.
However, he said no common understanding has yet been achieved on the future of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant or on broader territorial issues.
Zelenskyy reiterated that territorial questions must ultimately be resolved at the leadership level and confirmed his readiness to engage in such talks.
