PHUKET, Oct 22 — Heavy overnight rain has caused flooding across several areas in Phuket, prompting Thai authorities to rush to drain water from key locations.

According to The Nation, Kamala Sub-District Administrative Organisation reported that main roads remain passable despite waterlogging in areas including Soi Fantasea, in front of the Thiwaratri Hotel, Soi Olalla, Khlong Moo 5, and the intersection near the Kamala Sub-District Administrative Office.

Both lanes in some spots are submerged but still accessible to vehicles.

Officials also flagged minor incidents caused by the weather, including a car crashing into an electric pole near Tops Supermarket and a pine branch smashing a tourist’s windscreen at Kamala Public Park.

Authorities coordinated with related agencies to clear debris and speed up drainage.

Residents and visitors have been urged to exercise caution when travelling through flooded zones and to avoid high-risk areas such as construction sites and canal banks.

Phuket City Municipality also warned that water levels in Bang Yai Canal remain high, advising vigilance against potential flash floods.

The Southern West Coast Meteorological Centre forecasts thunderstorms over 70 per cent of Phuket today, with heavy rain in some areas, westerly winds of 15-30 km/h, and waves of about one metre, rising to over two metres in storm-hit zones.
