Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - TEL AVIV — Multiple people were rescued after a residential building in southern Israel took a “direct hit” from an Iranian missile strike on Tuesday morning, according to Israel’s emergency services.
At least three people were killed in the strike on the city of Beer Sheva and six others were being treated with light to moderate injuries, according to Israel’s emergency services Magen David Alom (MDA).
The Iranian missile strike on the residential building strike caused a massive explosion and clouds of thick gray smoke, according to social media video verified by CNN.
Images of the aftermath show concrete debris and crushed, burned out vehicles lining the street in front of the residential building. The façade of the building was destroyed, exposing damaged homes inside, according to the photos geolocated by CNN. First responders can be seen walking through the extensive damage.
Firefighters rescued three civilians alive from the rubble, MDA said, as search and rescue operations continue.
Walls of nearby buildings also appear severely damaged, according to video verified by CNN that was shared on social media and provided by Israeli authorities.
“We saw thick smoke rising from the impact site, and as we got closer, we saw extensive destruction to several buildings,” Shimirit Sela, an MDA emergency worker, told CNN.
Israeli flags can also be seen hanging out of windows in the neighborhood, as the lights of emergency vehicles flash below, the videos and photos show.
US President Donald Trump claimed late Monday night that Israel and Iran reached out to him almost simultaneously about peace between the two regions, as the Israeli military said it had identified missiles launched toward the nation from Iran.
CNN has reported that Trump and a group of his top diplomatic and security officials worked furiously behind-the-scenes to try to broker a peace deal to end the conflict between Iran and Israel in the hours after Iran launched a missile attack on a US base in Qatar.
Moments before Trump’s post, the Israeli military said it had identified missiles launched toward Israel from Iran and said its defensive systems were activated.
