Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - NEW DELHI — India on Saturday announced the immediate suspension of imports, postal services, and maritime connectivity with Pakistan, escalating tensions between the two neighbors following the April 22 attack in Kashmir that left 26 people dead.

A government notification issued late Friday by India’s Ministry of Commerce stated: “Direct or indirect import or transit of all goods originating in or exported from Pakistan... shall be prohibited with immediate effect, until further order,” citing national security and public policy concerns.

In parallel actions, India halted all incoming mail and parcels from Pakistan via air and land, and banned Pakistan-flagged ships from entering Indian ports. Indian ships will likewise be prohibited from docking in Pakistan.

The measures come amid heightened hostilities since the deadly assault in Pahalgam, Kashmir.

India has accused Pakistan of involvement, linking the incident to “cross-border elements.”

Pakistan has denied the allegation and proposed an independent investigation with third-party oversight.

Trade ties were already strained, with Pakistan having previously banned commerce with India.

Both countries have also canceled visa issuances, recalled diplomatic staff, and taken steps to freeze elements of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, which governs water sharing between the two.

Efforts by international actors — including the United States — to de-escalate the standoff are ongoing. — Agencies
