Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - YANGON — China is utilizing its DeepSeek AI-powered translation system to support earthquake relief efforts in Myanmar, helping international aid groups navigate complex language barriers following two devastating quakes, Chinese state media reported on Wednesday.

The Chinese Embassy in Myanmar confirmed that a Chinese-Myanmar-English translation system built on the DeepSeek platform is actively being used to assist foreign rescue teams and humanitarian organizations working in disaster-stricken areas.

The dual earthquakes — measuring 7.7 and 6.4 in magnitude — struck Myanmar and neighboring Thailand last Friday, with the epicenter in the heavily affected Sagaing region.

Myanmar's State Administration Council said the disasters have claimed at least 2,886 lives, injured over 4,600 people, and left 373 missing.

Developed in just seven hours, the translation system was created by a team from the Secretariat of the National Language Service Corps of China and Beijing Language and Culture University.

The corps is a public-service alliance dedicated to providing language support during national emergencies and public service missions.

Language barriers have emerged as a significant obstacle for international aid teams operating in remote and multilingual regions of Myanmar. The Chinese initiative aims to streamline coordination and improve the speed of critical response actions.

In addition to technical support, China has sent humanitarian aid and nearly 30 rescue teams, totaling more than 500 personnel, to assist in the ongoing relief and recovery operations. — Agencies
