Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - PARIS — French far-right leader and presidential hopeful Marine Le Pen has been sentenced to four years in prison — two of them suspended — and barred from holding political office for five years in a high-profile corruption case involving European Parliament funds, French media reported Monday.

The Paris court also imposed a €100,000 ($108,000) fine on Le Pen and ordered her National Rally party to pay €2 million for its role in the embezzlement scheme.

Le Pen, once considered a front-runner for the 2027 presidential election, was found guilty along with eight other Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) of misusing more than €3 million ($3.27 million) in EU funds to pay party staff in France. Twelve parliamentary assistants tried alongside them were also convicted of receiving stolen goods.

According to the court, the total financial loss from the scheme is estimated at €4.1 million ($4.4 million). — Agencies
