Asked about speculation surrounding a snap election, Joly said the ruling Liberal Party is “very keen” to seek a “clear mandate” to address Trump’s trade threats.
She also noted that many Canadians are concerned with developments in the White House and want leadership grounded in “strong values.”
The expected election will likely be contested between Prime Minister Mark Carney and Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre.
