Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - BEIRUT — At least seven people were killed and 40 others injured on Saturday in Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas in Lebanon, according to official Lebanese sources.

The Lebanese Health Ministry confirmed that five people, including a child, were killed and 11 others wounded in the town of Touline in the Marjayoun district of southern Lebanon following an Israeli airstrike.

Elsewhere, in the towns of Housh al-Sayyid and Saraain in the eastern Baalbek-Hermel governorate, six people were reported injured as a result of Israeli strikes.

An Israeli drone strike also targeted a parking area in the al-Raml neighborhood of Tyre on Saturday evening, leaving four injured, according to the Health Ministry’s initial report.

Additional strikes in the Nabatieh district town of Yahmor al-Shaqif left one person injured, while two more were wounded in Kfarkela.

The wave of attacks followed Israel’s claim that a rocket had been launched from Lebanon toward the Israeli settlement of Metula, prompting retaliatory strikes on towns and villages in southern Lebanon.

No group has claimed responsibility for the rocket attack, which marked the first of its kind since a ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was established nearly four months ago.

The fragile truce, which took effect in November, had ended months of escalating cross-border hostilities between Israel and Hezbollah.

However, since its implementation, Lebanese authorities have documented nearly 1,100 Israeli violations of the agreement, including the deaths of at least 85 people and more than 280 injuries.

Under the terms of the ceasefire deal, Israel was to have fully withdrawn from southern Lebanon by January 26, but the deadline was extended to February 18 after Israel declined to comply. Israeli forces still maintain a presence at five border outposts. — Agencies
