SYDNEY, Dec 10 — A Qantas domestic flight made an emergency landing at Brisbane Airport in north-eastern Australia on Tuesday due to brake failure, Xinhua reported.
Flight QF1929, which departed Brisbane Airport for Adelaide at 8.20am local time, turned back approximately 40 minutes after takeoff, according to a report published by Bernama-Xinhua today.
A Qantas spokesperson said the Embraer E-190 aircraft experienced a mechanical issue involving its landing gear brakes.
“The flight from Brisbane to Brisbane was forced to turn back shortly after takeoff due to a landing gear brake issue.
“We understand this may have been distressing for passengers and appreciate their cooperation in following crew instructions,” the spokesperson said.
Qantas is now working to ensure all passengers can continue their journey to Adelaide as soon as possible.
One passenger, Tudor Vasile, told Nine Entertainment radio that the pilot informed passengers during the flight that the aircraft's brakes were locked, which could cause the tires to burst upon landing.
Vasile said passengers were instructed to prepare for a potential emergency impact but felt relieved when the plane landed safely.
Emergency service vehicles were also deployed to the landing site.
The aircraft will now undergo inspection by a team of engineers before being cleared for operation.
