Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - MOSCOW — Russia announced Wednesday that Ukraine conducted a significant drone attack that ignited a fire in a large oil depot in the western Rostov region and disrupted air traffic in Kazan.

Governor Vasily Golubev reported on Telegram that at least four drones were shot down over the Rostov region, though he did not specify how many reached their targets.

Golubev confirmed that a fire erupted in a major fuel depot in the Kamensk district of the region but stated, “There are no casualties. The emergency services have been engaged in extinguishing the fire.”

In addition, an aircraft en route to Kazan was rerouted more than 200 kilometers (approximately 125 miles) south to Samara due to the drone attack threat, according to Kazan Airport's press service. "Flights heading to Kazan Airport from Moscow (Sheremetyevo) and Sochi have been redirected to a spare airfield in Samara," the statement read.

The Federal Air Transport Agency also reported that, early Wednesday, temporary restrictions were placed on Kazan Airport to ensure the safety of civilian flights. The airport halted operations as of 7:00 a.m. local time (0400 GMT).

Similar restrictions were implemented in Nizhnekamsk, also in Tatarstan region, which Kazan serves as the administrative center. — Agencies
