Hind Al Soulia - Riyadh - MOSCOW — The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry announced Saturday that more than 76,000 residents have been evacuated from the Kursk region as fighting with Ukrainian troops entered its fifth day.

Residents of settlements near the border with Ukraine, as well as those in areas where clashes are ongoing, have been relocated to temporary accommodation points, said ministry spokesman Artyom Sharov during a news conference in Kursk.

Sharov stated that 60 temporary accommodation points have been organized across eight regions, including Kursk, to house those fleeing the conflict zones near the Ukrainian border.

Overnight between August 5 and 6, Ukrainian forces intensified shelling in the Kursk region. The artillery attack was followed by an incursion of Ukrainian infantry, supported by tanks and armored vehicles, near the city of Sudzha.

On Friday, the neighboring Lipetsk region, which borders Kursk, suffered a significant drone attack. The attack killed one person, set a military airfield on fire, and damaged energy infrastructure, according to regional authorities.

Early Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that fighting in the Kursk region continued, with Russian aviation carrying out strikes on Ukrainian positions and engaging tank units. — Agencies
