Southwest Chinas Tibet Autonomous Region has renovated 46,600 latrines for family use to improve living conditions in rural and pastoral areas during 2021.
According to the district’s Directorate of Agricultural and Rural Affairs, the district has so far renovated a total of 316,600 latrines for local residents.
China launched the “toilet revolution” in 2015 to improve the number and level of cleanliness of toilets in tourist areas, and the campaign expanded to include public toilets in cities, as well as building better private toilets in rural areas.
Last year, the district also launched three special hygiene campaigns, besides removing 67,600 tons of household and industrial waste in rural areas.
Tibet will continue to launch campaigns and provide 40,000 clean latrines for family use through future renovations, according to the directorate.
