Today, Thursday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made a phone call with his Kazakh counterpart, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, where they discussed the developments in Kazakhstan, which is witnessing widespread unrest.

And the Turkish Presidency’s Communication Department stated, in a statement, that Erdogan told Tokayev that he is closely following the developments of the situation “in friendly and brotherly Kazakhstan,” stressing Turkey’s “solidarity” with it.
Erdogan, according to the statement, expressed his hope that “a new government of Kazakhstan will be formed, the protests will end and the tension in the country will be removed as soon as possible.”
The Turkish president indicated that he is certain that “the Kazakh people will be able to overcome the current problems within the framework of mutual trust and dialogue,” noting that “Turkey is ready to share all kinds of scientific information and experience” with Kazakhstan.
Erdogan also held separate telephone conversations with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Kyrgyz President Sadir Gabarov and Uzbek President Shavkat Morziaev.
During these calls, Erdogan stressed, according to his office, “the importance of Kazakhstan’s stability and security for the entire region, especially for neighboring countries.”
Kazakhstan has witnessed, since early January, massive mass demonstrations accompanied by widespread violence, and protests began from the cities of Zhanauzen and Aktau over the double-double of liquefied petroleum gas prices.
Demonstrations spread to other regions of the country, including Alma-Ata, the largest city in Kazakhstan, while widespread bloody clashes erupted, killing dozens of people and wounding thousands, including among protesters and security forces.
In light of these developments, Tokayev announced the dismissal of the government and his presidency of the Security Council and the imposition of a state of emergency at the national level, as well as an official invitation to the Collective Security Treaty Organization to send a peacekeeping mission to the country.
