The United Arab Emirates expressed its condolences and solidarity with the friendly People’s Republic of Bangladesh for the victims of a ferry fire south of the capital, Dhaka, which resulted in the death and injury of dozens. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to the Bangladeshi government and the Bangladeshi people for the victims of this tragic accident and to the families and relatives of the victims, and its wishes for a speedy recovery for all the injured. About 35 people died in the fire. Fire Department official Fariduddin Boyan said it erupted on the double-decker MV Obhijan 10 early Friday.

The ferry was traveling on the Suganda River in the Galkathi district, about 150 kilometers southwest of the capital, Dhaka.
