A senior European Union official said on Friday that talks to save the 2015 Iran nuclear deal were “moving forward”, adding that “many major issues remain open in order to reach an agreement on a final text.”

Asked whether the European Union, which is chairing the Vienna talks, was optimistic about the position of the new Iranian negotiating team, the official said, “My impression is that we are simply moving forward in a completely logical way to negotiate,” according to Reuters.

He added that “there are still 7 or 8 points that need to be agreed upon in order to conclude an agreement,” considering that they represent “big political points.”

In parallel, the Iranian “Noor News” news agency reported that Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency had held positive meetings in Vienna, adding that details about the results of these talks would be announced soon.

“While the nuclear talks continue in Vienna, constructive talks took place between the agency and Iranian officials in Vienna,” the agency said, affiliated with Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.

“Details will be announced soon,” according to Reuters.
