The Tunisian Civil Protection said that a fire broke out on Thursday at the headquarters of the Ennahda party in the Tunisian capital, causing the death of one person and the injury of 12 others.

Ennahda said one of its members had died in the fire, but gave no further details. Witnesses and party members said two senior party officials were among those injured in the fire.

They added that one of them is the party leader and former Prime Minister Ali Al-Arayedh, who was injured after he jumped from one of the windows of the second floor of the building, and the second is Abdul Karim Al-Harouni. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.

A party member told Reuters that the fire was caused by an electrical fault in the party’s main meeting room, and other officials said a man set himself on fire, without being identified.
