Washington expresses optimism that Hamdok will return to his position

The US State Department has expressed Washington’s optimism to restore Abdullah Hamdok to his position as the head of the Sudanese government, according to an agreement signed between the Sudanese political parties yesterday.

Ministry spokesman Ned Price said in a statement that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke with Hamdok and the Sudanese army chief, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan today, Monday.

He added, “We must see continued progress and see Sudan return to the democratic path, and this begins with returning the prime minister to his position, but the matter does not end there,” reiterating the call for the release of all civilian leaders in Sudan.
