Globallookpress, leader of the Polisario Front, Ibrahim Ghali
Polisario leader Ibrahim Ghali announced that the Saharawi Front decided to “escalate the armed struggle” against Morocco, to impose its control over the entire territory of Western Sahara.
During the opening of the fifth session of the National Secretariat of the Front, Ghali said that “the Sahrawi people have made up their minds and decided to escalate their just liberation war by all legitimate means, foremost of which is the armed struggle.”
Tensions increased in recent weeks, after Algeria announced earlier this month a bombing that it blamed on Morocco, killing 3 Algerian truck drivers in Western Sahara, confirming that they were on a commercial flight between Mauritania and Algeria, describing the incident as a “cowardly assassination.”
In November 2020, the Front declared a “state of war” and ended the 1991 ceasefire agreement, after a Moroccan military operation to expel a group of “Polisario” elements who had closed the only road leading to neighboring Mauritania, which the Front considers illegal under the agreement.
