German Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed that her country’s government used the “Pegasus” electronic espionage system of the Israeli NSO Group within the framework of German law.
Merkel said, according to the agency “DPA”, that the federal government is working “based on law and order” in the field of use of the “Pegasus” program.
And last Tuesday, the Criminal Cases Authority and the Ministry of the Interior informed a specialized committee in the Bundestag of purchasing the “Pegasus” program to monitor some suspects in order to thwart the emergence of any danger from them, in the context of a wide international scandal because of this espionage system.
On July 18, the France-based NGO Forbidden Stories and 17 different media outlets published a report saying that multiple countries had used the Israeli “Pegasus” software designed by the “NSO Group” to spy on 50,000 people around the world.
And the Public Prosecution Office in Paris announced the opening of investigations into these allegations, indicating that if they were proven true, this would be “extremely dangerous.”
