- The cross-border train connections between Switzerland and Italy will be suspended indefinitely from December 10th.
- The decision is based on a decree of the Italian government, announced the SBB.
The decree prescribes additional control mechanisms in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus – including temperature measurements on the trains. The SBB could not meet these requirements, she said on request.
In addition to long-distance connections, this also affects the offer for cross-border regional traffic Tilo. The failures there currently affect the period from December 10th to December 12th. For the time after that, clarifications about the concrete implementation of the decree of the Italian government were ongoing, the SBB announced.
The SBB trains run to the national border. Regional trains between Brig and Domodossola are not affected. Specifically, the restrictions mean the following for the offer in Switzerland:
- The EuroCity (EC) on the Gotthard run normally between Zurich or Basel and Chiasso. From Chiasso to Italy the trains are canceled without replacement.
- The EC at Lötschberg run normally between Basel and Brig. From Brig to Italy, trains are canceled without replacement.
- The EC at the Simplon are canceled. Only the EC 39 and the EC42 / 44 run between Geneva and Brig.
- The trinational train (Frankfurt – Milan) EC 52 and 451/151 will run between Brig and Frankfurt or Frankfurt and Chiasso until December 11th. On December 12th, train 451/151 is still running between Frankfurt and Chiasso, train 52 between Brig and Basel SBB. From the timetable change on December 13th, the trains will only run between Brig and Basel or Basel and Chiasso and will be canceled in Italy and Germany.
- The BLS RE between Brig and Domodossola continues to run according to schedule.
The online timetable will be adjusted as soon as possible, writes the SBB. Tickets purchased from her will be refunded.
