Lebanon’s ambassador to the UAE, Fouad Dandan, announced that he has no information on the reasons for which the 14 Lebanese were arrested, noting that the investigations are still secret.

“The Lebanese community is the second largest Arab community in the Emirates, and we are the fewest communities that are arrested,” Dandan said in an interview with the Lebanese “LBCI” channel.

He added, “We do not have information about the reasons for which the 14 Lebanese were arrested. The investigations are still confidential, and we always communicate with the families of those arrested and with the UAE authorities that allow contact between the detainees and the families.”

He said, “We have not been officially informed of any decision to stop giving visas to the Lebanese, and I contacted the Emirati authorities, and they confirmed that there is no decision in this regard.”

He continued: “There are Lebanese who managed to obtain visas and others were not able to do so. There are conditions for obtaining visas, and in Lebanon there is a kind of panic, as people submit on the same day more than one visa application, and this leads to the” SYSTEM “refusal of the visa, and the Emirate. The only one that has lifted the ban on visitor visas is in light of the measures taken in the matter of Corona. ”

On November 20, the Lebanese Al-Akhbar newspaper reported that 14 Lebanese were arrested in the UAE in two batches while practicing the hobby of football.

The newspaper said that “the detainees are residing in the Emirates and their records do not bear any precedents in the Emirates or Lebanon,” and that among the detainees are seven from the southern town of Shhur.
