11-year-old boy shoots himself, but family denies suicide

Adan Llanos, 11, died after shooting himself during an online class broadcast last Wednesday (2) in Woodbridge, California (USA). His family claims it was an accident and is unaware of the weapon’s origin. The police opened an investigation into the case.

According to The Washing Post, it was the boy’s sister who found him injured in the bedroom. She was also in class in another room in the residence and, upon hearing the shot, went to help her brother. According to the website, microphone and camera were disabled.

Despite the mysterious possession of the weapon, the family believes that the boy had no reason to commit suicide and supports the hypothesis of an alleged accidental shooting.

“We ask everyone to refrain from any speculation and if they see any comments, politely ask them to say only positive things. He was not suicidal,” Luis Llano, the boy’s uncle, wrote in a Facebook post.

Adan was also reported as a child “full of life and joy”, “loving” and “trying to put a smile on people’s faces”, by relatives and close people.

The Lodi Unified School District offered support to Adan’s family, students and held a live in memory of the boy. “Our thoughts are with the family affected by this terrible tragedy,” wrote Cathy Nichols-Washer, district superintendent, in a post on the Facebook page.

Adan’s aunt also expressed her condolences via social media and again mentioned what happened as an accident.

“It was a strange accident and our nephew was a happy child. Right now, seeing these comments is what most hurts the family and I can use all the help I can get from it,” said Stephanie Llano.

Nell Young, director of Woodbridge Elementary, also recalled the boy’s characteristics: “He always cared about others and always paid attention when someone around him was feeling bad. He was always looking to put a smile on people’s faces”, told Lodi News.
