Politician really means that: Adolf Hitler elected in Namibia – politics...

He has the worst name a person can have in this world: Adolf Hitler! But the man is not a Nazi. But on the contrary. He went into politics, began his career with the former Swapo anti-apartheid fighters.

On Wednesday, Adolf Hitler Uunona (that’s his full name) was sworn in as district administrator on Namibia’s constitution. Previously, he had won 84.88 percent of the votes in the regional elections in the Ompundja district in the Oshana region (in northern Namibia).

An overwhelming success against the trend! The Swapo lost the majority in these elections in several regions and cities.

BILD asked Adolf Hitler: How does it feel to be called that?

BILD reached Adolf Hitler Uunona (54) in the car, at a hot 33 degrees, asked him: How do you live as a politician with THAT name?

“That I have this name doesn’t mean that I want to subjugate Oshana now,” he says and laughs. “It doesn’t mean that I’m striving for world domination.” Then he gets serious. “My father named me after this man. He probably didn’t understand what Adolf Hitler stood for. “

It was the same with him in the past.

Adolf Hitler Uunona to BILD: “It was a very normal name for me as a child. It was not until I was growing up that I realized that this man wanted to subjugate the whole world. I have nothing to do with any of these things. ”

Change the name? “It’s too late for that”

His wife called him Adolf, he himself usually appeared in public as Adolf Uunona, leaving out “Hitler”. He couldn’t change the name. “It’s in all official documents. It’s too late for that. ”

The first name Adolf is not uncommon in the former colony of German South West Africa. There is also a German-language newspaper, German radio stations, street names (such as Bahnhofstraße, Bismarckstraße), German place names (Lüderitz, Mariental, Helmeringhausen, …) and a small German-speaking minority. Until a few years ago, there was even a “Blitzkrieg Bunker Bar”, a heavy metal bar, in the state capital of Windhoek. The ruling party Swapo has its headquarters on Hans-Dietrich-Genscher-Strasse.

Remarkable: A few years ago a car was spotted in Adolf Hitler Uunona’s home region of Oshana with “Adolf Hitler” written over a swastika on the rear window. The car, says Adolf Hitler Uunona, but doesn’t belong to him.
