Two people electrocuted in German train station

Two people who climbed on a railway carriage in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein were electrocuted by the overhanging electricity cable. A third person sustained burns, police said on the night from Saturday to Sunday.

The group had climbed onto a tank wagon that was parked at the train station in the town of Itzehoe. Power was transferred to them from the overhanging power line.

Many rescue workers were on site and the station was closed for 1.5 hours. Nothing is yet known about the identity and intent of the victims.

The police emphasize that power can already jump to people from a considerable distance, even if they do not directly touch a cable.
