The percentage drop in the number of new infections this week is 1.8 percent. Last week, the number of new infections fell by 13.5 percent, the week before by 32 percent.
Decline of infections is stagnating
It seems cautious that the combination of measures and behavior has reached a ceiling, and that the number of infections per week does not decrease significantly further.
Goal: less than 8,467 infections per week
With the current infection numbers, relaxation of the measures seems a long way off. A previously mentioned goal is to get to 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week or less as quickly as possible.
At 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week, the risk level goes from (very) serious to ‘worrisome’ (one category lighter) on the corona roadmap.
That means that there can be a maximum of 8,467 infections in the entire country in a week. Last week, the RIVM predicted that we would be there at the end of January. But this week’s figures don’t offer much perspective for that.
The graph below shows the trend of the weekly number of infections and the line we want to go to (the dotted line).
OMT advice: don’t relax
On the basis of the above figures and graph, possible relaxation still seems a long way off. This is also evident from an advice from the Outbreak Management Team, which was released earlier today. It is advised not to relax for the time being.
It should also be investigated whether the Christmas holidays should be extended this year.
Less than 4000 corona cases last 24 hours
Despite the fact that the weekly figures do not show a major decrease, a lot less new positive tests have been reported in the past 24 hours than in previous days.
For the first time since October 4, less than 4000 new corona cases have been registered in 24 hours. Between Monday morning and Tuesday morning, 3,979 reports of positive tests were received by the RIVM. Just over 5,200 infections were reported yesterday.
Fewer corona patients on the ic
The number of people admitted to hospital because of COVID-19 decreased slightly, from 1,496 to 1,291. The number of people admitted to intensive care also fell slightly, from 224 last week to 193 this week.
Nevertheless, the pressure on healthcare because of corona remains high, the RIVM reports.
