Police shoot involved house robbery in Rotterdam-Vreewijk | Rotterdam

The incident in the home created a threatening situation that forced one of the officers to draw his firearm and shoot a man. Eleven arrests were made thereafter. Someone else also shot in the home robbery. A man was injured as a result and was transported to hospital by ambulance. The victim had not been injured life-threatening.

Shortly after six o’clock three men entered the house, where several people were present. Local residents heard a lot of screaming. Several shots were fired in the tumult that ensued. Initially there was talk of a hostage situation, but that was not the case. The emergency services estimate the situation to be so serious that a trauma helicopter was immediately sent to the neighborhood for medical assistance.

Several of those involved fled into the neighborhood. Some specialized police teams were deployed to make arrests. Various streets in the vicinity of the Meiland were closed to the public. Whether the detainees know each other is still unclear. The police have found a firearm.

Around half past eight, the police deployment in the neighborhood was scaled down. The Meiland did remain locked for further police investigation.

If an officer has used his weapon and is injured by police fire, an investigation by the National Police follows. In all other cases in which violence has been used by the police, a violence report will follow and, if necessary, an internal investigation.
