Rudy Giuliani has made many bizarre appearances in recent years. As Donald Trump’s private attorney, the former New York mayor is now back in the spotlight: The 76-year-old is leading the judicial battle of the elected US president against alleged electoral fraud.

And while Giuliani repeatedly attracts a lot of ridicule with his theatrical appearances – and now with a hair dye breakdown – many consider him extremely dangerous.

On Thursday it was that time again. At a press conference, the former public prosecutor reiterated his allegations of alleged fraud in the presidential election with wide eyes. He spoke of a “national conspiracy”, attacked the Democrats of election winner Joe Biden as “crooks”, berated journalists present and also quoted the Hollywood comedy “My cousin Winnie” from the early 90s to illustrate his accusations of fraud.

A special sensation, however, caused the heavily sweating Giuliani apparently hair dye ran sideways over the face. Photos of the 76-year-old with brown stripes on his cheeks became a hit on social networks.

“Oil and evil are seeping out of Giuliani,” tweeted Meena Harris, niece of Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris.

Giuliani, a joke in the service of the President? Because even if many only shake their heads in amusement at Giuliani: Trump supporters give the lawyer a lot of attention with his theories. The conservative news broadcaster Fox News broadcast the press conference in full length. Trump’s wave of lawsuits may be hopeless, but they undoubtedly undermine the confidence of US citizens in the election as a central democratic process. Giuliani is not known to have any particular scruples.

He was once highly regarded as the mayor of New York, and after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, he was even referred to as “America’s mayor”. Giuliani, who was born into an Italian immigrant family in Brookyln, New York in 1944, later became a loyal Trumps kneebiter. Before the 2016 presidential election, he worked hard for the outsider.

Giuliani then hoped to be rewarded with the post of Foreign Minister. The fact that Trump refused him the job apparently did not lead to a broken relationship. In April 2018, Trump hired the former anti-drug law enforcement officer as his private attorney.

Giuliani, known for his furious TV appearances, expressive facial expressions and thick rings, was also Trump’s man for disreputable machinations. It was the former public prosecutor, among other things, who looked for incriminating material against Biden and his son Hunter in the course of a dirt campaign in Ukraine. The Ukraine affair led to the ultimately unsuccessful impeachment proceedings against Trump at the end of 2019.

Shortly before the election, Giuliani was behind a highly controversial report by the right-wing tabloid “New York Post” with allegations of corruption against the Bidens. The newspaper claims to have received alleged emails and other compromising material from Hunter Biden through Giuliani.

Shortly afterwards, however, a video that was highly compromising for Giuliani himself became known – the Trump confidante had been taken aback by television comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. In the new “Borat” film, Giuliani can be seen with a young woman in a hotel room, as he lies on the bed and reaches into his pants with his hand. By his own account, he just tucked his shirt into his pants.

Giuliani then caused new ridicule a few days after the election with a bizarre press conference in front of a nursery in Philadelphia that bears the same name as the luxury hotel Four Seasons.

That doesn’t seem to change anything about Giuliani’s self-confidence: According to US media, the lawyer is said to have asked for $ 20,000 a day for his work for the president. He himself dismissed this as a lie. (afp)
