Al-Akhbar: More Lebanese arrested in the UAE

Al-Akhbar learned that the number of Lebanese who were arrested in the United Arab Emirates exceeds the number that was circulating in recent days. As it turned out that the confirmed number reached 14 Lebanese, they were arrested in two batches. Among the detainees, seven were from the southern town of Shhur, all of whom were arrested while practicing football, about 9 days ago. The detainees are residents of the United Arab Emirates, and their records do not bear any “precedents” in the Emirates or Lebanon.

Neither the Lebanese government nor any official agency has moved to follow up the issue of the new detainees, as well as the previous ones, who have not yet known any information about the reasons for their arrest, or their place of arrest. As in all cases of detention in the UAE, detainees are denied any human rights, foremost among which is the right to defense or contact with their families. There were rumors that Al-Akhbar could not verify their authenticity, attributed to an Emirati security official, indicating that the number of Lebanese arrested exceeds the circulating figures by many times!
