The activities of the Seamless 2020 Digital Economy Technologies Conference and Exhibition concluded in yesterday, which aimed to support and enhance the opportunities for the growth of the digital economy in the Arab region, in the midst of a remarkable Arab presence presented by officials of the League of Arab States.

The Council of Arab Economic Unity of the League of Arab States and the Arab Union for the Digital Economy launched a new initiative, the “Arab Index for the Digital Economy.”

During the conference, which witnessed deliberations, lectures and working papers presented by a number of specialists and experts in the fields of the digital economy, and on the sidelines of the conference, an exhibition was organized for a number of entities and companies that deal and produce technologies and tools in the areas of digital government services, digital identity, digital payments, e-commerce, retail trade and financial technology. .

The Arab Digital Economy Index is a new step within the efforts of the Council of Economic Unity and the Arab Federation for the Digital Economy, which aim to increase the rates of development and economic growth in the Arab region by exploiting the available opportunities provided by the digital economy.

Dr. Ali Al-Khoury, Advisor to the Council of Arab Economic Unity and President of the Arab Union for Digital Economy, stressed during his speech at the two-day conference that the index is a continuation of the “Arab Vision for Digital Economy” initiative, which is of great importance as it consolidates the building of the ambitious Arab project, and was launched at the end 2018 in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of supporting social and economic growth in the Arab region.

On the characteristics of the Arab Index for the Digital Economy; Al-Khoury pointed out that the index is designed on 9 main axes, which are related to infrastructure, innovation, institutional and governmental structures, attractiveness of labor markets, education, skills and capacity building.

It addresses in its entirety the goals and priorities of sustainable development, noting that the nine axes are institutions, infrastructure, education and skills, smart government, innovation, knowledge and technology, network readiness, business environment, financial market and sustainable development.

Al-Khoury touched on some of the main findings of the 2020 report issued by the Council of Arab Economic Unity, as the United Arab Emirates releases the Arab countries, as they retained the first place for the second year in a row, and the Gulf countries in general are still at the forefront of the digital scene in the Arab region.

The Seamless Middle East Awards 2020 was held at the Dubai International Financial Center, where the Ajman Smart Payment Portal won the Best Government Payment Experience Award, and this award came in recognition of the Department of Finance’s efforts and initiatives aimed at making the Ajman Smart Payment Gateway the safest and smartest payment system amongst the Many payment solutions and options available in the UAE.
