Syrian state television announced early today, Monday, the death of Walid al-Muallem, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.

The Syrian News Agency “SANA” said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates mourns the death of Walid Al-Moallem, Minister of Foreign Affairs.”

Al-Muallem was born on July 17, 1941, and he was born in the capital, Damascus.

Al-Moallem took over the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 11, 2006, and studied in public schools from 1948 until 1960, when he obtained his high school diploma from Tartous.

After that, he joined Cairo University and graduated in 1963 with a BA in economics and political science.
